Anatomy of a Tooth
Anatomy of a Tooth
Soft tissue including blood vessels and nerves inside a tooth is called the pulp. It spans the length of the tooth inside the hard shell which is made of Enamel and Dentin. The pulp is instrumental for growth and development but once a tooth has matured, nourishment can be supplied by gum and surrounding tissue.
How Does The Pulp Get Into Trouble?
Traumatic tooth injuries such as chipping, fracturing, or grinding of the Enamel & Dentin can leave the pulp exposed thereby subjecting its' blood vessels and nerves to irritation and infection. Bacteria from dental cones can cause damage to the pulp thereby leading to sensitivity and infection. Infection may also spread to the root of tooth resulting in abscess.
